Some stuff about me

I was born and bred in Bondi, Sydney. I’ve travelled through Europe and Asia, lived in London, have worked as a teacher, spent some time working in the film industry, played in various Sydney bands and even spent six months working as a nanny. It’s been a very interesting journey so far.

I grew up in Bondi before it became a verb. It was a place of peeling paint and faded glories, subsidised housing and a diverse cultural and socio-economic mix.

Bondi was a great place then and still is now once you can look past the surface and locate its true beating heart. It’s there as it always has been but it’s now been submerged by the ever incoming tide of fashion and pre-determined cool. It is still a beautiful place and a very comfortable spot to live, but as a result of this it is very easy to become a little non-productive and almost too comfortable. This was my situation anyway when in mid 2007 when I decided to shake things up a bit with a 6 week trip to Vietnam. My job as a teacher was put on hold and I finally got to the country that had fascinated me for years. Within two days of my arrival I was making a vague plan about how I might come back for an extended time.

Saigon (HCMC) is definitely overwhelming at first but it is also exciting, very different and very interesting.

After the journey by planes, trains, buses and boats that took me the length of the country I made the decision that I was coming back as soon as possible to begin a new adventure in my life.

On returning to Sydney I gave notice at my job and finished up the school year, packed up my unit, informed friends and family and bought a one way ticket.

After various travels and adventures I found myself back in Saigon. A short stint teaching English at night led me to a full-time position at an international school, and that’s where I’ve been happily ever since.

Hopefully this site can fill you in on some of the interesting things I’ve seen and felt since that first day.

I hope you enjoy.
